Guide to Yisroel Shtern Site

Hotlinks are provided to guide the reader of this site, not only between the Yiddish and the English translations, but also to related articles in the "About Shtern" section.

In each section, works are given in chronological order, with undated works at the end.

The posthumous publication in 1955 of his book stimulated a spate of reviews and some brief memoirs. In Yiddish we give I. Rapaport's review; Rapaport was a Warsaw literary critic whose last years were spent in Shanghai and then in Melbourne.

In 1963 a Yizkor Book was brought out in Israel for Shtern's birthplace, Ostroleka, and Jon Levitow has translated two articles from it about Shtern: a memoir, by his landsman I. I. Kahan, of a talk given by Shtern there; and a memoir of his days in the Warsaw Ghetto by the noted chronicler Rachel Auerbach.

Additions to the materials are welcomed, as too contributions in any language to the "About Shtern" section. Please write to The Editor, Andrew Firestone, afire@tpg.com.au
